The president of France , Emmanuel Macron , tested positive for coronavirus today. It was announced by the Elysee Palace, the seat of the French presidency.
As reported, the PCR test (swabbing) was performed on the French president “as soon as the first symptoms appeared.” After the positive, the French head of state will be isolated for a week.
It is not yet known how or when the leader of La República en Marcha was infected, but the Elysee has already canceled his entire schedule, including a trip to Lebanon.
The presidential statement clarified, however, that Macron will continue to work remotely. Who will also be isolated will be the Prime Minister of France, Jean Castex, because, although he does not show symptoms, he had contact with him.
But not only Castex will have to be confined by the positive of the 42-year-old president . The head of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez , must also isolate himself for having lunch with his French counterpart on Monday in Paris.
The Spanish ruler, then, must quarantine until December 24. The palace of La Moncloa reported that events in which Sánchez would participate have already been suspended and that today he is going to undergo a test.
The French president thus joins the list of leaders who have been affected by the coronavirus: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, US President Donald Trump, and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
A few days ago the death of the first head of Government victim of this disease was announced. It was Ambrose Dlamini, prime minister of the kingdom of Eswatini, a small monarchy in the south of the African continent.
