This Friday was not another day for Qatar. Nor was it for football lovers in the world. This December 18, just with only two years to go until the final of the next 2022 World Cup will be played , a new stadium was presented that will host the next FIFA World Cup.
In the presence of the Emir and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Zani, and with the participation of the public for the realization of the final number 48 of the Emir Cup on the country’s national day , the new Ahmed Bin Ali stadium was inaugurated, the fourth to be opens the way to the next World Cup . The venue, which will be the new home of Al Rayyan Sports Club , joins the inaugurations of the Jalifa, Al Yanub and Ciudad de la Educación stages .
On the way to the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East, the new stadium will house a capacity of 40,000 people and will host seven matches of the tournament until the knockout stage . Built on the same site as the club’s old court, the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium is positioned next to a shopping mall and a few meters from Al Rifa Station, on the Doha Metro Green Line.
Among its most important characteristics is its brilliant façade, composed of elements typical of the country of the Arab world : the importance of the family, the beauty of the desert, the national flora and fauna, and local and international trade. A fifth form, that of a shield, serves as a union for all and represents the unity and strength that especially describe Al Rayán, the city of the desert.
“The Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium is extraordinary,” said Gianni Infantino. “The atmosphere is incredible thanks to the fact that the stands are very close to the field. Even with the public separated by sanitary measures, the excitement of the fans reached me. I am sure it will be the perfect setting for the Qatar 2022 matches. The country is very well prepared for this tournament and is on schedule to celebrate a memorable edition ”, added the FIFA president, who was part of the presentation.
For his part, HE Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee of the next World Cup, stated: “The inauguration of the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium on Qatar’s National Day represents another great milestone towards 2022 and the triumph of the collective effort. for achieving it in the midst of a global pandemic. Without a doubt, the stadium and its surroundings will be a source of pride for Al Rayyan Sports Club and all the inhabitants of this historic city ”.
