The health authorities of Ontario, Canada yesterday detected the first infected with the new strain of COVID-19 identified in the United Kingdom.
“The cases are a couple from Durham who have no history of travel, exposure (to the virus), or high-risk contacts,” said the Ministry of Health of this province.
Those infected were isolated the same day that Ontario reinstated a multi-week lockdown.
Cases of people contaminated by the new variant of the virus continue to appear in several European countries . Yesterday at least four cases were detected in Madrid , in people who had returned from the United Kingdom.
Another six positives of the new strain were diagnosed in Italy, bringing confirmed cases to more than 10.
The first cases were also found in Germany, France , Sweden and Japan.
Decimated and semi-confined, the European Union received the first doses of its vaccines against the coronavirus, which has already claimed more than 540,000 lives in the region.
Yesterday morning, the doses produced by Pfizer / BioNTech were delivered to hospitals and warehouses in countries such as France , Spain or Italy .
Each country will set its priorities and most plan to supply them from today, although Germany and Hungary started yesterday.
Meanwhile, the WHO warned that COVID will not be the last pandemic and recalled that health advances will be insufficient if there are no changes regarding global warming and animal welfare.
