Forbes realtime ranking of richest man in the world is not yet updated but top media outlets and sources like CNBC, Washington Post, CNN and BBC are now declaring Elon Musk as the richest in the world.

This was after the Tesla gained a market value of $700 billion for the first time on Wednesday. And leads to Elon Musk net worth crossing $185 billion over Jeff Bezos for the first time defeated since 2017.

During Thursday morning (US time) stock trading, Tesla’s stock price had risen 5.9%, giving Musk a fortune of more than $ 188.5 billion. That’s $ 1.5 billion more than Bezos, according to Bloomberg News.

Tesla had a strong year in 2020 with increased production and new factories. During the year, the share rose by more than 700 percent and was added to the prestigious US stock index S&P 500.

Musk is also behind the space investment with the company Space X, which in May last year became the first private player to send astronauts into orbit around the earth.

At the beginning of 2020, he barely made it to the top 50 list, and his journey to the top has thus been extremely fast. As recently as November last year, Musk overtook Microsoft founder Bill Gates , who with his $ 132 billion was in second place.

According to CNBC, Musk has made more money in the last year alone – than Gates is good for overall. After the successful year, Musk is estimated to have assets worth $ 185 billion.

Musk responded to the news of his status as the world’s richest person with tweets stating “how strange” and “well, back to work …”

However, Elon Musk said he intended to use half of his fortune to “help problems on Earth” and “half to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars to ensure continuation of life (of all species) in case Earth gets hit by a meteor like the dinosaurs or WW3 happens & we destroy ourselves”. A future humanitarian act hardly imagined by other billionaires.

In a series of tweets that the South African-born billionaire pinned to the top of his timeline, Musk said the reason why he wants lots of money was “not what you think”. He said he had “very little time for recreation” and doesn’t have “vacation homes or yachts or anything like that”.
