A £1.69 Lidl chicken dish branded a ‘game-changing’ alternative to McDonald’s has polarised opinion among shoppers.
The box appears to have similar branding to that of the famed burger chain and comes with a curry and sweet and sour dip.
The post attracted more than 16,000 comments, with some saying that it could rival meals from fast-food restaurants.
One person said: “Game changer for you if they’re like Maccies.”
When asked how they compare to McDonald’s, one shopper said: “I have had them before, they taste the same.”
Another Lidl customer said: “I’ve has these before and they are yummy,” while another added: “I buy these we love them.”
Lots of others commented that they would be heading straight to Lidl to try them with a staff member commenting: “As a staff member, I can say they do sell pretty fast.”
The supermarket option was likened to the classic McDonald’s nugget by some – but others branded them “horrible”. But others were less than impressed, with one Facebook user commenting: “Don’t bother they are horrible.”
Another said: “‘Made from chopped and formed chicken meat’ it doesn’t say 100% Chicken which is throwing me off.”
One sceptic added: “Haven’t had them but I expect they are full of anything but chicken. Read the ingredients chicken is minimum,” with another saying: “The term ‘chopped and formed chicken meat’ concerns me.”
“Bet a tenner these taste cardboard,” another person said.
Lidl shops remain open during lockdown and people are allowed to go shopping when needing to buy essential items including food and medicine.
