In the free access week, you can try it too,
Later this week, Call Of Duty: Cold War and Warzone are kicking off season two, including the Cold War’s big new zombie mode. You may be headed out into the open air, but there’s no vacation for Outbreak. Five distinct objective types are put to work by your operators, one of which is an escort mission, sorry. Before it launched on Thursday, Activision revealed all the details and a new trailer for Outbreak mode. In a free access week starting on the same day, you can try it out too.
Story-wise, the CIA sent the Requiem team to the largest known outbreak site in the Ural Mountains to help with different research goals. Activision says that the new format means that there is no set path to each goal and you will be able to spend as much time as you like exploring and hunting for loot, as compared to previous zombie modes. Of course, the zombie hordes are there to contend with, but don’t drag your feet too long.
Holdout is most similar to the standard zombie mode, which involves boarding windows in an enclosed space and surviving zombie waves. Eliminate asks you to take high-value goals around the map, Retrieve needs Aetherium canisters to be fetched, and Defend has you preventing zombies from destroying a research maching. Then there’s the babysitting escort mission for a Requiem rover to a dimensional portal. Activision says that “as the Outbreak continues to grow.”
“After each experiment is done, you must either successfully exfiltrate the area or, if you choose to accept the risk of deadlier encounters, enter rifts through the Dark Aether to another region to assist with more objectives,” Activision says. Instead of exfiltrating, you’ll deal with more dangerous missions if you choose to enter the rift.
In Activision’s post about the new Outbreak mode, you can capture the rest of the details for each mode, and some zombie lore bits. It will start on Thursday, February 25, with Season Two.
Activision is also running a free Cold War access week from 25 February to 4 March, which will include Outbreak mode.
