Mohinder Singh, chairman of the J&K United Kisan Front, was arrested here on Republic Day on Monday night for alleged involvement in violence in Delhi.
This is Jammu Kashmir’s first arrest in connection with the violence.
He was called by SP South at Gandhi Nagar Police Station from his residence in Chatha on the outskirts of Jammu City during the day, according to family members. However, since he did not return home, only to be informed that he was arrested by a police party from Delhi, one of the family members went to Gandhi Nagar police station.
Gandhi Nagar SHO Gurnam Singh and the police party arrived there as the family members began to agitate about the police action and tried to pacify them by claiming that they had come with proper documentation and that the family could resort to legal recourse.
During the farmers’ agitation, Mohinder was proactive. Family members, however, said that he had never visited the Red Fort, but that he was on the border of Delhi.
