A 36-year-old man who allegedly shot down six of his relatives at their home in Nkanini in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, was arrested by DURBAN-POLICE at the weekend. The sole survivor of the massacre is a 9-year-old child. Under a bed, she tried to lock herself away. Brigadier Jay Naicker, the SAPS provincial spokesman, said the man is suspected to have hacked his way into the house using an axe.
“The suspect was armed with a pistol which he used to kill six members of the family, aged between 8 and 70 years of age. He fled the scene after the incident,” alleged Naicker. He said that this morning, police managed to track the suspect’s whereabouts and he was discovered in Greytown. He has been arrested and will be taken back to Eshowe, where he will be held for murder. It is expected that he will soon appear in court on six counts of murder,’ he said.
Kwazi Mshengu, the acting KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, thanked the police for their swift action. To the family of the deceased, MEC Mshengu expressed his heartfelt condolences. He reiterated that the Provincial Government has a policy of zero tolerance for all forms of crime, including brutal murders.
