The deputy chief coroner resonates with a mother’s alarm that synthetic medications are highly dangerous after her 25-year-old son dies from toxic substances.

Coroner A.J. Tutton has ruled by Dylan Hotter-Matehe has unintentionally lost his life from the synthetic cannabis he had taken up on 8 March 2018.

The death of the Christchurch man was also a reminder of the need for assistance immediately, as the results released today indicate, when a synthetic cannabis user collapses or does not respond.

He is one of the deaths from 5F-ADB synthetic cannabinoid
7 from the middle of 2017.

Two months ago, Hotter-Matehe had only re-used synthetic cannabis and smoke it the night he died, smoking a bong in a friend’s house with a group of people.

A friend reminded him that he “zoning out” with his eyes open and leans over the floor.

Then the friend went upstairs to have a bong with someone else and left Hotter-Matehe and a friend on the bunk.

When he woke up he saw Hotter-Matehe squabbling on his knees at the mouth and calling his mother to help.

There was a call to emergency services, but Hotter-Matehe died on the stage.

Rawinia Matehe, Hotter-mother Matehe’s said that four years her son used this drug and it was very bad. A few months before his death he had a break but began to use it.

Matehe told Chris Lynch of Newstalk ZB about the risks of drugs after his death and the way it should be eliminated from the street.

It had ruined her son’s life and he passed from a “fun-loving child” to a man who had robbed neighbors and families and even left a young sister home for him to be hit, she said.
