Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has expanded travel restrictions for international flight passengers.

The CAA reported in a statement released on Sunday that the Air Directives (NOTAMS) were extended until 06:00 a.m. Monday, the 8th of March, 2021.

The restrictions concern EU and non-EU passengers and conditions related to PCR and rapid rest and suspension of flights and quarantines between some countries and Greece.

Prohibition of entry into Greece of non-EU third-country nationals and the Schengen Agreement: notam allows for a prohibition of entry into Greece of non-EU third-country nationals and the Schengen Agreement.

Excluded from the Aviation Directive are only residents from the following 10 countries:

  • United Kingdom
  • Singapore
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Rwanda
  • South Korea
  • Thailand
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Russian
  • Israel.

Seven (7) days of quarantine on all arrivals from abroad: all passengers entering our country from any foreign country, including the Member States of the European Union, shall be subject to the compulsory precautionary restrictions laid down in the PLF form at home or at the place of temporary residence, for a period of seven (7) days, unless they remain in Greece for a shorter period of time, in which case the period of temporary residence is shortened. Furthermore, upon arrival, foreign passengers will be checked on the basis of the protocol given by the Passenger Locator Type. In the event that tests find a positive case, the passenger quarantine will be valid for.

In order to get it removed, the United Kingdom will have to undergo a 7-day quarantine and a new PCR test: particularly for incoming passengers from the UK, they will have to undergo a new PCR test after the 7-day period is over in order to be quarantined.

Mandatory completion of the Passenger Locator Form: Mandatory completion of the form by all passengers on international flights to Greece at the electronic address https://travel.gov.gr/ is given. For passengers of foreign flights who are permanent residents of Greece and depart from airports in Greece, it is also mandatory to complete the PLF form.

Suspension of flights to Turkey: further extension of the suspension of flights between Greece and Turkey.

Arrivals only at the DA “Eleftherios Venizelos” from Albania / Northern Macedonia: all flights from and to Greece from Albania and Northern Macedonia will be conducted only at the DA “Eleftherios Venizelos” under the current extension of notam.

Maximum travelers from the Russian Federation: the following restrictions remain, particularly for Russia (permanent residents), arrivals only at Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion airports and a maximum entry limit of 500 passengers per week for Greece.

INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS ONLY WITH A NEGATIVE PCR TEST OF 72 HOURS: notam provides that all international flight passengers can reach Greece only with a negative PCR Test of Covid-19, to be carried out up to 72 hours before their arrival. The CAA also remembers that, upon entering Greek territory based on the PLF, arriving passengers will be subject to a sample inspection.

Both international flight directions are subject to exemptions from the travel restrictions of the pre-existing notes.
