A offer for a mosque by Thessaloniki’s Muslim community was denied by the Greek authorities.
An proposal to build a mosque in the northern port city by the Macedonia-Thrace Muslim Education Culture Foundation was two years in the making, but was eventually rejected by the Ministry of Education and Religion of Greece.
The authorities of the ministry have cited the lack of documentation and technical information.
“Greece, which does not open the existing mosques, also does not show Muslims another place for their worship,” a member of the foundation said.
“Our applications to conduct our worship in our foundation have been also rejected with excuses outside the legal regulations,” the member added.
