Durban-A newborn baby in a packet in a bush in Phoenix was found abandoned. A man was walking in Stonebridge Road, Phoenix, on Friday just before 7pm when he heard a baby crying in a nearby bush, according to KZN police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“He went to check, and in the grass he found a black bin box. There was a male child inside the box, about a day old, wrapped in a pink blanket. Mbele said the police were informed and the child was taken for observation via ambulance to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
“There was an open case of child abandonment.” A passer-by warned KZN VIP Medical, according to paramedic Garrith Jamieson. “Along with KZN VIP Security, paramedics arrived to find a baby boy, about a few hours old, under blankets in the bush. The baby was examined and was in good health.
