On Sunday, a lion assaulted a zookeeper in northwestern Germany as she cleaned her enclosure, authorities said.
Osnabrueck Zoo’s 25-year-old employee was not deemed seriously injured but was hospitalized as a precaution, police told the dpa news agency.
“Today, February 21, there was an accident at our zoo. An animal care worker was attacked by one of our lions,” The Zoo published on its social media.
Luckily, the colleague was able to keep herself safe and is not in danger of life at the moment. At the moment, we are all shocked and wish our colleague all the best!
“We’ll investigate the incident in the next few days and will keep you posted.”
Just before noon, the woman was attacked.
Right now, we are all surprised and, first of all, we wish our workers all the best. Luckily, there’s no danger to her life, she’s being treated in a hospital,’ said Andreas Busemann, Osnabrück Zoo’s Managing Director.
“We are very happy that he is doing well under the circumstances.”
As part of coronavirus lockout steps in the area, the zoo is closed to the public.
