Durban – After delivering a baby boy to the Durban CBD on Tuesday morning, a Durban metro cop was hailed as a hero. Traffic warden Ashley Diedricks had been conducting his duties when he was called by a colleague to support a woman in labour, according to metro spokesman Parbhoo Sewpersad.
called by a metro officer and he wasted no time coming to her rescue.
A human shield was created by the officer as Ashley delivered the bouncy baby boy on the sidewalk. The mother and baby were both in good health and were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Sewpersad said the fact that officers went beyond the call of duty to support people was heart-warming. Diedricks was among the 600 metro officers hired by the Durban metro police in 2016, he said.
