To date, 187 people have been identified with the UK coronavirus strain, six people with the South African strain and one with the Brazilian strain, the Union Health Ministry said. Nevertheless, there has been no evidence to support that these new variants are responsible for the rise of Covid-19 cases in Kerala and Maharashtra, said Dr. VK Paul, NITI Aayog Member.
Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the overall positivity rate in the nation is 5.19 percent and is decreasing rapidly. Covid-19 cases are still 75 percent involved in Kerala and Maharashtra. Kerala had 38% of the country’s total active cases, while Maharashtra had 37% of the country’s total active cases, he said.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday, concerned about the growing cases of coronavirus, ordered new guidelines in the state to curb the spread of the virus. The CM said the capacity of indoor meetings, along with strict implementation of mask wearing and social distancing, will be limited to 100 and outdoor meetings to 200 from March 1, respectively. It will also be appropriate to ramp up coronavirus testing to 30,000 a day.
According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India’s cumulative tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 1,10,16,434 on Tuesday, with 10,584 new infections being reported in a day, while recoveries exceeded 1.07 crore. The overall death toll increased to 1,56,463 with 78 new fatalities in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Over 1.17 crore individuals have so far been vaccinated against Covid-19, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Tuesday.
The number of people recovering from the disease reached 1,07,12,665, which corresponds to a 97.24 percent national recovery rate, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 percent. The country’s active coronavirus infections have decreased to 1,47,306, representing 1.34 per cent of the total case load, according to the report.
According to the results, the active caseload of the country as of Monday stood at 1.50,055 cases, representing 1.36% of the total positive cases. The Ministry of Health confirmed that no new cases have been identified by seven states or UTs in the past 24 hours.
