Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, is in good health and will return to the occupied West Bank on Thursday after a medical check abroad, less than two months before the upcoming Palestinian elections.
The announcement came on Wednesday from the presidential office, after the 85-year-old leader flew to Germany for a routine medical review on Monday.
Abbas has attended public gatherings in recent days and has shown no signs of illness. Last month, he also got the first shipment of coronavirus vaccine.
The long-serving Palestinian leader, on the other hand, is a heavy smoker with a history of heart problems. During a trip to address the United Nations Security Council in the same year, he was also admitted to hospital with pneumonia, which he was treated for in the United States.
