According to a poll conducted by L’Equipe, France fans want Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to be included in their Euro 2020 squad this summer.
Benzema has been out of the Les Bleus squad since 2015, with Didier Deschamps insisting that the situation regarding the 33-year-international old’s future has not changed.
However, his recent consistency for Real Madrid has swayed the French fan base’s opinion on whether to recall him, with the majority now reportedly in favor of a recall for this summer’s rescheduled competition.
Benzema was voted the sixth most wanted striker in an online poll, with 41% of the vote, behind leader Antoine Griezmann (97%) and Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman, Ousmane Dembele, and Olivier Giroud.
In the eyes of the fans, he ranks higher than Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.
With 96 percent of the defensive vote, Benzema’s Los Blancos teammate Raphael Varane was the most desired central defender, followed by Ferland Mendy in fifth place.
