Former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, who is now the club’s director of institutional relations, has slammed referee Santiago Jaime Latre for his performance during Barcelona’s match against Real Valladolid.
The Brazilian took to social media to express his disappointment that Valladolid had not been awarded a penalty following a Jordi Alba handball.
“I’m sure this referee will be in charge of a certain game this weekend as a reward for today,” tweeted Roberto Carlos in reference to next weekend’s Clasico.
Oscar Plano received a straight red card in the 79th minute for a tackle on Ousmane Dembele. Many people on both sides of the Real Madrid/Barcelona divide were perplexed by the decision on social media.
The frustration of Valladolid was compounded in the dying minutes of the game, when Dembele scored in the 90th minute to give Barcelona a 1-0 win and keep them ahead of Los Blancos heading into the Clasico.
