Endwalker is the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, and it will wrap up the story that has been running in the massively multiplayer game since A Realm Reborn was released in 2013. Before that, however, there will be update 5.5, which will close the gap between Endwalker and the previous expansion, Shadowbringers, and for which there is a new trailer below.
I don’t play FFXIV – or Final Fantasy games in general – but the trailer has some amusing moments. YoRHa:Dark Apocalypse, a new Nier: Automata crossover raid planned by Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro, is one of them. For some reason, the players are small (or rather, far away) and battling a giant woman in a greyscale cuboid world of stairs in those sections above.
Death Unto Dawn, Patch 5.5, has a landing page that details all of the changes. Fandaniel and the Telophoroi are causing ominous towers to rise throughout the realm as part of their attempt to recreate the Final Days, so there are new main story quests. Several of those words are unfamiliar to me.
There’s a little bit of everything here. Raids, dungeons, trials, mounts, minions, and New Game+ updates have all been added. Endwalker will raise the level limit from 80 to 90 and introduce a slew of new classes when it launches later this year. If you like eating in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll have plenty to chew on.
Realistically, I’ll never have time to play Final Fantasy XIV, but seeing these trailers makes me feel like it’s a great shame. Patch 5.5 will be available on April 13th if you have more time than I do.
