Every year, as we approach spring, the Overwatch group is treated to an Archives celebration, but the 2021 edition has left many of us in the cold. So, what went wrong with Archives 2021?
Overwatch’s 2021 Archives case was panned even before it started for being “stale.”
Blizzard’s announcement that they’d be focusing all of their attention on the highly awaited Overwatch 2, fans have been outraged by the developers’ decision to only release a small amount of new content in the current version.
For many, Archives was a huge disappointment, since it felt like the event was put together at the last minute. Most importantly, it didn’t fit the overall theme of the game, which was supposed to be the history of Overwatch.
The Archives case gave birth to some of Overwatch’s most recognizable skins. Fans have often enjoyed delving into the backstories of their favorite heroes, from Cadet Oxton to Combat Medic Ziegler.
This year, however, they took a different approach, adding historical-themed skins rather than ones commemorating Overwatch’s rich history. It went down like a lead balloon, as you would expect.
