According to Diario AS, Real Madrid’s first signing for next season, David Alaba, has already been completed. The contract hasn’t been signed yet, and the deal hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s only a matter of time. After rejecting a contract offer from Bayern Munich, the Austrian will join on a free transfer.
Alaba has agreed to a salary of €12 million net per season with Real Madrid, making him one of Europe’s highest-paid defenders. Alaba, who is about to turn 29 years old, has a lot of years left on his contract, and can play multiple positions, is a smart buy.
With that pay, Alaba is on par with the team’s highest-paid defender, captain Sergio Ramos. Only Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard, who both earn around €15 million per season, earn more than the Andalusian.
If Ramos stays in Madrid, that is. His contract is up for renewal this summer, and he and the club are at odds over the terms. Ramos wants a multi-year contract, while the club prefers year-to-year renewals. The summer is shaping up to be a big one.
