According to a report in the Middle East, former Barcelona captain and icon Xavi Hernandez is set to leave his position as coach of Qatari club Al Sadd.
According to reports, the former Al Sadd central midfield maestro’s contract will not be renewed, and he will leave the club at the end of the current season.
Xavi has been heavily linked with a return to the club in recent months, and he actually turned down Barcelona’s offer of the manager’s job in January 2020 after Ernesto Valverde was fired.
The focus of recent Barcelona news has been on how the club will be structured off the field in the coming years under the presidency of Joan Laporta, who was elected in March.
While the 41-year-old is currently a first-team coach, he could return to the Camp Nou in a managerial capacity, which would not jeopardize current manager Ronald Koeman’s position.
Between 1998 and 2015, Xavi made 767 first-team appearances for the Catalan giants, as well as winning 133 caps for the Spanish national team.
