Jennifer’s daughter Bill and Melinda Gates tells them she is still learning how to treat her emotions as her relatives after 27 years of marriage announced their division.
Divorce is difficult for any family, but even more complicated if it involves the world’s richest men. The news, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his former wife Melinda Gates are splitting up, has revealed to her 25 year-old daughter Jennifer how this was a “difficulties” for her family, including Brother Rory, 21 and Sister Phoebe, 18.
A second year of medical student, Instagram told her message about the decision of her parents to end her marriage for 27 years. “Hi friends. – Hi friends. You’ve already heard the news that my parents are divided. For my whole family, it was a difficult time. I’m always learning how to best support my own emotions and processes as well as the members of my family at this time, and I’m thankful for the place to do it.”
Jennifer continued, “I won’t personally comment further on anything around the separation, but please know that your kind words and support mean the world to me. Thank you for understanding our desire for privacy while we navigate the next phases of our lives,” and signed off “With love and respect, Jenn.” She then shared her parents’ Monday, May 3 joint announcement that they were splitting up after 27 years of marriage, although Jennifer was careful not to use the word “divorce” in her statement.
“After much thought and a great deal of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” Bill and Melinda said in a joint statement only a few hours earlier. We’ve raised three amazing children and created a foundation that operates all over the world to allow everyone to live safe, productive lives,” the statement read on the Microsoft founder’s Twitter account. “We really believe in that mission and will continue to work together at the [Gates] foundation, but we don’t believe we will flourish as a couple in the next stage of our lives.”
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was launched in conjunction with the project in 2000, which is aimed at improving medical care, reduce extreme poverty, and increase global access to education and technology. The pair have worked actively towards a malaria vaccine affecting 200 million people annually. Bill pledged a $1 billion commitment for the fight against mosquito-born disease by 2023, when it contributed hundreds of millions to the advanced development of malaria vaccines, new medicines and other medications at the 2018 Malaria Summit in London.
Jenn, Rory, and Phoebe already realize they won’t be having a windfall inheritance from their parents when it comes to their daughters. Bill has already stated that he intends to leave each of his children a “miniscule” amount of around $10 million so that they can pursue their aspirations without relying on his $130 billion fortune. The former couple had already agreed to donate the majority of their wealth to charity.
