Lamar Odom took to social media two weeks after his father’s death to post a special new tribute, as well as thank fans for their condolences.
Lamar Odom is mourning the death of his father, Joe Odom, with whom he had a rocky relationship throughout his life. Joe passed away in April, and Lamar took to Instagram two weeks after announcing the news to give fans an update.
“Thank you to everyone who extended love and prayers to me during my time of bereavement,” he wrote, with a red heart emoji. “I appreciate every single one of you for sending me good energy.”
In a direct reference to his father, Lamar reflected on some of the difficult times he had with Joe, but ultimately had a positive outlook on their relationship. “Life does not come with guarantees,” he said. “My grandfather and I had our quarrels, but at the end of the day, I knew he loved me and I loved him, and that was all that really mattered. I urge you to make amends with family and friends, tell someone you love them, smile a little more, laugh out loud, and give your heart to those who deserve it because death is the only thing that is guaranteed. That is everything there is to it.”
Along with the post, Lamar also posted a picture of himself and Joe in a painting. He stated in the caption that the artwork was given to him by Karlie Redd. He gushed, “Special thanks to Karlie Redd for getting this photo taken of me and my father and for always being an incredible friend to me.” Lamar and Karlie sparked relationship rumors in April after they were pictured looking flirty at a celebrity boxing match. However, the state of their relationship is still unknown.
When Lamar was on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Khloe & Lamar with Khloe Kardashian, his father also made guest appearances. Joe battled opioid addiction, which had a negative impact on his relationship with Lamar. The reality shows chronicled these highs and lows.
Lamar did not disclose Joe’s cause of death, but on April 20, he wrote the following message:
“These eyes have seen the best of life and the worst in mankind. This heart has overflowed with love and been cold as ice. These tears have been from joy and pain, as I embark on burying my father I ask that you extend good energy and kindness toward my family and myself. Understand that the most important and formative relationships you will ever have will be with family. Embrace it. Life is uncertain.”
