Barcelona has finally made the long-awaited contract extension offer to Lionel Messi, as reported by Deportes Cuatro.
The focus has been on how the Blaugrana could fund a deal to keep Messi at the club while fending off interest from other clubs with greater financial resources and who do not have the same level of club debt as the Catalan giants.
In this context, according to the latest report, Messi’s salary will be cut in half in the new contract proposal, but the Argentine superstar will not lose out financially due to the security of the 10-year contract’s duration.
The 33-year-contract old’s with the Catalan giants expires at the end of June, and due to the expiration date, he has been free to speak to other clubs since January.
Messi attempted to leave Barcelona as a free agent last summer, but he backed down because he did not want to go to court to force the move, and he stayed for this season – but his future now dominates Barcelona news.
Messi’s current contract at the Camp Nou expires in less than nine weeks, and the club risks losing him as a free agent.
