Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has been linked with a summer transfer to his old club to replace Fernandinho.
Despite continuing to play a key role in Guardiola’s treble-chasing side this season, Brazilian veteran Fernandinho will leave the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires this summer.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola will now focus on bringing in a new face ahead of the 2021/22 season, with Barcelona’s Miralem Pjanic on his wish list.
Following his summer move from Juventus, Bosnian international Pjanic has struggled to make an impact in Ronald Koeman’s plans this season.
Guardiola could contact the Catalans about a possible transfer in the coming months, with Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips also being mentioned as a possible target.
If Pjanic leaves the Camp Nou this summer, Koeman is expected to increase his pursuit of Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum, whose contract at Anfield expires next month.
