Lucas Vazquez’s Real Madrid contract expires this summer, and he has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, according to Diario AS.
Los Rojiblancos made an approach for their rival’s player, but were turned down because Lucas Vazquez is too closely associated with his current club to move to their direct rivals, according to the report.
It comes after a report in Diario AS last week that Madrid had improved their contractual offer to the player and were becoming increasingly confident of reaching an agreement on a new contract.
Vazquez has improved his fortunes at the club this season and is now a key member of the squad, as well as the starting lineup – he has started 31 games in all competitions this season, compared to just 10 the previous season.
However, due to an injury, he will miss the remainder of the season.
For Los Blancos, Vazquez had filled in at right-back and on the right side of a front three.
