Returnal was developed by Housemarque, a Helsinki-based Finnish studio, and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Along with Resident Evil VIII: Village and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it appears that the game will be one of the PS5’s main showcase titles.
On April 30th, 2021, the game was finally announced, and fans were hoping that Returnal would be a great showcase for the PS5’s capabilities. Although Demon’s Souls and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales were excellent PS5 games, Returnal is a completely new IP that was extremely exciting.
The promise of the sci-fi horror/action-adventure title Returnal piqued fans’ interest when it was first unveiled during the PS5 Reveal Case. Returnal’s concept, which revolved around a vicious time loop and a genuinely fascinating space world, was one of the first things that drew viewers in.
Returnal tells the story of Selene, who finds herself trapped in a time loop on the alien planet Atropos. The game’s psychological horror elements, as well as its groundbreaking time-loop mechanics, quickly became a hot topic.
The game is heavily influenced by roguelites and contains a wealth of lore that is sure to appeal to fans of narrative-driven games. Returnal is one of the console’s first big launches. Comparisons to Remedy Entertainment’s landmark 2019 game Control (another Finnish studio) were unavoidable. Returnal, on the other hand, seems to have established its own personality.
