TAIPEI – From Tuesday, 4 May, health minister Chen Shih-chung said that the last place to apply the curbs on traveling from India battered with a coronavirus will prevent people who have visited India during the previous fourteen days from entering Taiwan.
At least 17 countries, including UK, Iran and Switzerland, have reached the Indian virus variant and several have been encouraged to close their border to those who have traveled from India.The number of infections in India was only timid on Monday after more than 300,000 new cases of coronavirus were reported during a 12th straight day.
Chen said that on Monday, with the restriction taking effect at Midnight local time, all those who were in India in the previous 14 days were kept out.
However, the return of Taiwanese people from India must spend 14 days in central quarantine installations.Deputy Minister of the Economy Chen Chern-chyi said earlier that the government was considering sending the 150 Taiwanese businessmen now in India by airplane.
However, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said their evaluation was that there was no need for an evacuation at present, adding that there was no other country.
