JAPAN -The Northern Japanese weather agency on Saturday warned of the possibility of land slips in the hilly northeast, that an earthquake had been struck at an early magnitude of 6.6. There has been no tsunami alert.

This earthquake hit the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, north of Tokyo and close to the destroyed nuclear power plant at Fukushima Daiichi, where the owner of Tokyo Electric Power inspected the plant.

Another operator was also carrying out status checks on Onagawa nuclear power plant near the epicenter, NHK said.
