Valencia will begin contract talks with captain Jose Gaya this summer, following reports that Barcelona is interested in him.
Following Dani Parejo’s move to Villarreal, the Spanish international signed a five-year contract at the Estadio Mestalla, before taking over the captaincy at the start of the 2020/21 season.
Despite Los Che’s struggles, his impressive form this season has piqued transfer interest, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Ronald Koeman is eyeing him as a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.
With doubts about Junior Firpo’s long-term future in Catalonia, Koeman wants to secure a new left-back option for next season, and Gaya’s stalled contract talks have fueled speculation about a move.
Valencia is expected to offer the 25-year-old a raise as part of the talks, but he is expected to demand guarantees over the club’s direction before signing anything.
With big-name sales on the horizon at the Estadio Mestalla, Los Che boss Javi Gracia is likely to be fired by the club’s owners in the coming months.
