Cade Cunningham is the most recent professional athlete to invest in cryptocurrencies.
The Detroit Pistons rookie has struck to an exclusive, multi-year sponsorship contract with crypto firm BlockFi, according to Joe Pompliano of Huddle Up. Cunningham will earn 100% of his signing bonus in Bitcoin as part of his contract.
Cunningham, who is 19 years old, was the first overall chosen in this year’s draft. As part of his rookie contract with the Pistons, which is separate from his signing bonus, he will earn $45.6 million over the following four years.
Professional athletes are increasingly interested in cryptocurrency. Another young athlete from a different discipline has already made a similar move.
