Jornel Lugo won his third Bellator fight in exactly five minutes.
Lugo (7-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) secured his second career submission when he put Keith Lee to sleep with a rear-naked choke as the bell rang to end Round 1 of the Bellator 265 main card on Friday.
Lugo took the fight to the ground after a display of jabs and precision on the feet, where he maneuvered his way to the back position. He soon worked arm position and locked in a rear-naked choke from there.
It didn’t take long for the contribution to show its worth. Lee’s arms went obviously weak as he struggled to fight his way free. As time ran out, Lugo swung off his opponent, and Lee lay down on the canvas, unconscious, before rising to his feet. He lost his equilibrium and stumbled over to his stool as a result. Lee was ruled out at the buzzer at the referee’s discretion, and the bout was called off.
Lugo demanded a spot on the promotion’s Nov. 5 event, which is slated to take place in Dublin, and hinted at a possible rematch with Brian Moore after the fight.
Bellator 265 took place in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Friday. After prelims on MMA Junkie, the main card aired on Showtime.
