Color OS is Oppo’s significantly customized Android skin layer. Oppo smartphones all across the world use the OS, while OnePlus handsets have already switched to Color OS from Hydrogen OS, though only in China.
Color OS 12 (based on Android 12) has been in development for a few months, but the OS will be released to the public on September 13. This was confirmed indirectly through Oppo’s smart assistant Breeno, and a screenshot was posted on Weibo.
The assistant even mentioned that Color OS 12 will be dropping at 3PM (local China time). The follow-up reports state that the assistant’s answer has changed since the initial reporting and now only responds with “to be revealed soon, please stay tuned.”
Google has not yet confirmed a release date for the public release of Android 12. The new Android version has been in beta for several months, but Google did instruct app developers that they should be finalizing their apps for Android 12. Should the Oppo slip up be true, the public release for Android 12 should be taking place on or before September 13.
