After a severe injury with the Boston Celtics in 2017, Isaiah Thomas was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers and may be bad news for another Boston Celtics point guard alumna.
According to The Athletic’s John Krawczynski, fellow Celtics alum Rajon Rondo’s recent emancipation agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies may have closed a route back into the NBA for IT via the Los Angeles Lakers. The “Lakers were strongly considering signing Isaiah Thomas, and things appeared to be heading that way as September approaches,” Krawczynski tweeted recently.
However, “Rondo’s buyout from Memphis definitely changed matters in recent days,” implying that the guard with whom they won a championship is likely their favorite option.

The former King in the Fourth may well yet find his way back into the NBA, but for now, it seems like Boston’s longtime rivals will not be the team it happens with.
