After losing AJ McCarron to a season-ending injury, the Atlanta Falcons are looking for a new backup quarterback.
During Saturday’s preseason game against Miami, McCarron tore his ACL in his right knee. That’s exactly the kind of injury the Falcons dreaded.
It is a torn ACL in right knee for Falcons backup QB AJ McCarron as the team feared last night. That will end his season and Atlanta is in the market for a new backup QB. Feleipe Franks is the only other backup QB on their roster.— Cameron Wolfe (@CameronWolfe) August 22, 2021
Only Matt Ryan and undrafted rookie Feleipe Franks are available for the Falcons, which means they’ll almost certainly be looking for a more seasoned and solid veteran backup to Ryan.
The Falcons have had a difficult offseason, as they parted ways with one of their franchise players earlier in the process. The loss of McCarron isn’t as significant, but it’s still a headache for the Falcons to cope with this late in the preseason.
