According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the New Orleans Saints are dealing with many positive COVID-19 instances.
Six assistant coaches, a team nutritionist, and wide receiver Michael Thomas, who is on the physically unable to perform list, all tested positive for the virus, according to Pelissero. Pelissero stated that the seven employees who tested positive had been immunized. During training camp, coach Sean Payton stated that the entire staff had been immunized.
According to the league transaction wire, Thomas has been assigned to the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Following the positive tests, the Saints will be placed on an enhanced COVID-19 mitigation procedure, which includes a mask requirement and daily testing for all players and personnel regardless of vaccination status, as per league policy.
New Orleans, which is still displaced as a result of Hurricane Ida, will face the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Sunday. Pelissero reported that the Week 2 match will take place as planned.
